From Housing Crisis to Housing Solutions: Insights to be Shared at AESOP 2025 and IFoU 2025

A joint abstract by the Municipality of Braga and ICS-ULisboa on social housing has been accepted for presentation at AESOP and IFoU 2025, while we will also attend a thematic DASH workshop in Germany. These events promote international exchange and reinforce Braga’s commitment to inclusive, sustainable urban development.

In 2025, the Municipality of Braga and the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa) will contribute to the international debate on housing and urban planning. A joint abstract has been accepted for presentation at two major academic conferences: 37th AESOP Annual Congress 2025, “Planning as a Transformative Action in an Age of Planetary Crisis” and International Forum on Urbanism (IFoU) 2025 Lisbon: Future Living.

The abstract reflects on the evolution of social housing in Braga and is the result of ongoing collaboration between municipal practitioners and academic researchers. It highlights how planning frameworks, local governance, and market dynamics intersect in the housing field — particularly in medium-sized European cities facing growing pressure on affordable housing provision.

The contribution draws on insights developed within the DASH project (Deliver sAfe and Social Housing), funded by the Marie Curie Staff Exchange Programme, which promotes collaborative knowledge exchange on sustainable housing solutions across Europe.

In parallel, the Municipality of Braga will also be present at a DASH thematic workshop in Germany, contributing to peer learning among project partners and reinforcing its commitment to inclusive urban development.
